District Antonio Narino

antonio-narinoThe fifteenth localidad of Bogotá, is the District of Antonio Narino, it takes its name from the famous Colombian general, Antonio Nariño, who took an active part in the independence war against the Spanish occupiers. The locality is situated in the central part of the south of Bogota, the region is principally flat and in the 1800s, the area on which this localidad now covers was well irrigated with pastures and fields with numerous rivers and was home to the Muequetá indigenous peoples. It was separated as a locality in 1991 following a process of development that started in 1920. Now there is a major commercial sector within the Restrepo neighborhood, located on Carrera 24 until the Avenida Primero de Mayo, however the area is principally residential with small stores and churches, the majority being strata 3.

Important Local Barrios: Restrepo, Policarpa Salavarrieta, Luna Park, Villa Mayor, Eduardo Freí, San Antonio, Caracas, Ciudad Berna, Ciudad Jardín, La Fragua, and Santander.
